Center schedules blood drives for September

Central Jersey Blood Center, Shrewsbury, has announced the following local blood drives:

+ Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank-Tower Hill, 255 Harding Road

+ Sept. 22, 5-8:30 p.m. at St. Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church, 240 Broad St., Eatontown

+ Sept. 25, 6-8:30 p.m. at Eatontown Elks, 216 Broad St.

+ Sept. 28 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Riverview Medical Center, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank.

The donation process takes about an hour. Donors must also complete a medical history interview and have a mini-physical (temperature, iron, pulse and blood pressure screening). Interested donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must present signature ID at time of registration.

Donations may also be made at Central Jersey Blood Center, 494 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury.

Middletown church to dedicate organ Sept. 24

The Middletown Reformed Church, 121 Kings Highway, will host the dedication of its new Allen organ Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

The instrument was obtained through a bequest provided by the church’s 1st Lt. Dennis Zilinski. Guest musicians at the dedication will include Diane Alwein, Peter Isherwood, members of the Middletown High School North choir, and Fred Aspen of Allen Organs. The musicians will perform pieces such as “O Holy Night,” and “At the Midnight Hour.” A reception with refreshments will follow in the education building, and all are welcome to attend.

Registration under way for Harvest Home Festival

The Monmouth County Park System will hold a “Harvest Home Festival” Sept. 24 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road, Holmdel. Deadline to enter the competition is Sept. 20.

Residents are invited to enter the amateur home and garden competition, with categories as follows: vegetables, canning, condiments, baked goods, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, needlepoint and plastic canvas, quilting, weaving, and rug hooking and braiding. Winners will be awarded a prize ribbons.

to meet Sept. 20

The Italian American Association of Monmouth County will hold its general meeting Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Brioso Restaurant, 134 Route 9, Marlboro. Admission is $30, which includes a dinner buffet and complimentary wine.
