The Long Branch Concordance (LBC) will host a beer-tasting fundraiser and community awareness event on Nov. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shore Institute for Contemporary Arts (SICA) on Third Avenue.

BrewSips@SICA will feature the beers of this region as well as food and entertainment. Tickets for the event cost $30 per person or $50 per couple.

The LBC is a nonprofit agency that helps residential of coastal Monmouth County obtain information and resources for health care, housing needs, at-risk youth, rent and utilities, job development, language skills and domestic violence.

+ Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, guest speaker Richard Veit of Monmouth University’s Department of History will present a slide presentation on New Jersey’s historic burial grounds from the 1600s to present day.

+ Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, a presentation will be made on the death of President James A. Garfield, who died after being shot in the Elberon section of the city.

The African American Arts & Heritage Festival will be held on Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) annual fall conference will be held at the Ocean Place Resort & Spa on Ocean Boulevard in Long Branch Oct. 9-11. The international forum on ocean and coastal issues will mark the 80th anniversary of ASBPA and will feature three days of workshops led by national and international scientists and scholars in the fields of oceanography, the coastal environment, beach preservation and other issues of importance to the shore. The Association for Children of New Jersey (ACNJ) is seeking first- and second-graders to enter a statewide art project that will portray children’s vision of the future. The children’s drawings will be used to illustrate the association’s “New Jersey Kids Count 2007,” an annual report that tracks the well-being of children in New Jersey.
