The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Planning Authority (FMERPA) has rescheduled its regular monthly meeting to this coming Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Eatontown Borough Hall, 47 Broad St. in Eatontown. The 10-member authority, which has been assigned to find new uses for the Fort Monmouth property after the U.S. Army base shuts down in September 2011, was originally scheduled to meet yesterday in Eatontown.

About a dozen area senior citizens participated in the “Ident-Adult” senior photo identification card program sponsored by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, Freehold, and held on Sept. 11 at the SCAN Center at Monmouth Mall, Eatontown. The “Ident-Adult” photo identification card contains pertinent information in case the person carrying the card becomes ill or needs assistance. The wallet-size plastic photo card can also be used as a second form of identification. Over 4,000 “Ident-Adult” cards were issued in 2005, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The Shore Regional High School District will sponsor the second and final informational meeting for residents regarding the $49.7 million bond construction referendum tonight between 7 and 8:30 p.m. at the school, 132 Route 36 in West Long Branch. Residents from all four sending communities are invited to come and speak with district administrators, the architect, bond counsel, board members and others involved in the project designed to upgrade facilities at the school. The referendum vote is set for next Tuesday between 3 and 9 p.m. at residents’ regular polling places. Pope John XXIII Regional School in Ocean Township is cooking up a new and exciting fall fundraiser. The Autumn Kitchen and Tasting Tour will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The self-guided tour features 10 kitchens in the Allenhurst, Interlaken, Loch Arbor, Ocean Grove, Asbury Park and Ocean Township. Each stop will feature a sampling of cuisine by local chefs and caterers with floral arrangements and table settings by local designers and businesses.

Prevention First, a Monmouth County nonprofit, will host the seventh annual ChessFest 2006 on Saturday, Sept. 30, on Asbury Park’s 5th Avenue Boardwalk (south side of Paramount Theatre) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This fun-filled event for Monmouth County children ages 5 to 18 is designed to spark interest in the game of chess. Registration is free and the first 50 children to register will receive a free chess set and ChessFest T-shirt. Breakfast and lunch for registered participants will be provided by the Windmill Restaurant of Long Branch.

ChessFest 2006 will showcase champion chess masters and experts from around the state who will work with all registered participants. Beginners will learn the basics of chess and those who are more knowledgeable about the game will have their skills tested in friendly competition. Trophies will be awarded to those who checkmate or draw the chess masters.

Onlookers are invited to join the festivities and watch the featured event, the “Human Chess Game,” which will begin at 12:30 p.m. This unique and fun game features children and chess masters as actual playing figures on a life-size chessboard.
