No Republican challengers in Princeton Borough, Princeton Township and Plainsboro

There will be no Republican candidates competing for municipal seats in this year’s general election in Princeton Township, Princeton Borough and Plainsboro, local and county officials said.
Wednesday was the deadline for candidates to file to fill vacancies remaining after the June primary elections. With no Republican contenders stepping forward, the Democratic incumbents are the only local candidates on the November general election ballot in the three towns.
In Princeton Borough, Democratic Mayor Mildred Trotman will thus run unopposed to serve out the remainder of her mayoral term. Mayor Trotman was chosen in November to fill the position after the death of former Mayor Joseph O’Neill. Following the November election, Mayor Trotman will serve the term’s remaining year expiring on Jan. 1, 2008.
Incumbent Councilwomen Wendy Benchley and Peggy Karcher, both Democrats, will likewise run without opposition for three-year terms on the Borough Council.
Borough Councilwoman Barbara Trelstad who filled the vacancy that occurred when then-Council President Trotman was appointed mayor will be the only candidate on the ballot to serve the term’s remaining two years.
In Princeton Township, Democrat Chad Goerner will be unopposed in the race for the open Township Committee seat. Mr. Goerner was appointed to the seat in July after former Committeeman Bill Hearon resigned.
In Plainsboro, Deputy Mayor Neil Lewis and Committeewoman Ginger Gold Schnitzer, both Democrats, are uncontested in their re-election bids.
