Mike Gambino, 20, and Russell Hennessy, 21, both of Monroe, were charged with possession of over 50 grams of marijuana after police said the pair were growing marijuana plants on property owned by the Dallenbach Sand Co. on Deans Rhode Hall Road.
Police said they were called to the sand mining company at 1 p.m. Sept. 14 for a report of suspicious activity. A company official said he saw two people carrying something and walking at the far end of the property. Police said the duo dropped a 6-foot marijuana plant and ran away after the company official approached them.
Police searched the area and saw spots where other marijuana plants had been harvested. No other plants were found.
The witness provided a description of the suspect’s vehicle, a silver GMC Envoy, and its license plate number.
The men were charged in their Monroe homes and taken to South Brunswick police headquarters, processed and released pending court.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force and Monroe Police Department assisted in the investigation.
