Start walking
to change tomorrow
To the editor:
Obesity and lack of physical activity are devastating our children, our workplaces, our communities and our society.
Sedentary jobs have increased 83 percent since 1950, and we’re working 164 more hours than we did 20 years ago, reports the American Heart Association.
Obesity is costing American companies $226 billion annually in lost productivity.
I’m writing as an American Heart Association volunteer, local business executive and chairman of the 2006 American Heart Association Hunterdon-Somerset County Heart Walk on Oct. 7.
It’s time for America to start walking. I join with the American Heart Association to encourage New Jersey families, business and industry and local communities to start walking and help us create a culture of physical activity.
Hunterdon-Somerset County Heart Walk on Oct. 7 at the Duke Island Park in Bridgewater is a great place to start walking, but we need to promote a culture of walking and physical activity throughout the year.
Walk. Change Tomorrow. Today. That is the theme of the 15th annual American Heart Association Heart Walk taking place this fall, including Hunterdon-Somerset County Heart Walk. Let’s start walking.
The American Heart Association is "changing tomorrow" for millions of people in New Jersey by funding education, programs and nearly $10 million in heart and stroke research in the New Jersey-New York metro area.
Join us at the 2006 American Heart Association Hunterdon-Somerset County Heart Walk on Oct. 7. Register your team by calling the state office of the American Heart Association at (609) 208-0020.
Be sure to mark your calendar and support the "Go Red For Women" movement and fourth annual American Heart Association National Wear Red Day for Women on Friday, Feb. 2, to raise awareness that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women.
