The Princeton Regional Board of Education on Tuesday approved Marleen Tredy-O’Connor to fill the district’s new supervisor of guidance services position, effective Sunday.
Based in the high school and reporting to Principal Gary Snyder, Ms. Tredy-O’Connor will supervise all guidance and counseling staff for grades 9 through 12.
Possessing a master of arts degree in guidance and rehabilitation counseling and a standard principal-supervisor certificate, she comes to the district with former experience as the assistant principal in the Middletown Township school district and the coordinator of guidance at Snyder High School in the Jersey City school district.
Ms. Tredy-O’Connor will be charged with fulfilling a variety of tasks in three main areas. First, she will oversee the services and activities provided by the guidance department. These include the provision of new student orientations, the design and implementation of parent and student surveys of guidance needs and the identification of award- and scholarship-eligible students.
Second, she will manage post-graduation planning for high school students. In this capacity, Ms. Tredy-O’Connor will maintain needed student records, four-year plans and class profiles as documentation of individual student performance. She will also create group guidance programs for students in all high school grade levels to address their needs. Her duties will extend to meet parents’ needs, as well, through the offering of newsletters and evening forums to assist them in the planning process. The district expects all planning efforts to be based on ongoing relationships with admissions officers of the colleges and universities most frequently chosen by Princeton High School students.
In addition, Ms. Tredy-O’Connor will serve as a leader to the guidance staff. Some of these duties, as described, will include representing the district at national counseling organization meetings, remaining aware of current guidance principles and attending regular meetings with administrators and the Child Study Team.
