Irene F. Patko Emann of Princeton died Tuesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 70.
   Born and raised in Franklin Township in Somerset County, she resided in Princeton most of her life.
   Mrs. Emann retired as a supervisor at Educational Testing Service in 2001 after 55 years of service.
   She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad.
   She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, family gatherings and reunions.
   Daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel Patko, wife of the late Walter V. Emann, sister of the late Joe, Bob and Frank Patko, sister-in-law of the late Ruth Martin Rowley, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Mark and Jo Emann of Lawrence, Michael and Alison Emann of Princeton and Daniel and Joan Emann of Ringoes; daughters and son-in-law Renee and Ralph Garth of Victoria, Australia, and Michelle Emann of Goochland, Va.; sisters and brothers-in-law Ethel Ughetta of Neshanic Station, Ilona and Robert Dragert of Pennington, and Joanie and Bill Grosse of Mercerville; sister-in-law Carolyn Patko of Franklin Park; grandchildren Jason Kane and wife Kerri, Roland "Randy" Kane, Jessica, Walter and Bennett Emann; great-grandson Tyler Kane; and many nieces and nephews.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Westerly Road Church, 37 Westerly Road, Princeton, with the Rev. Matthew P. Ristuccia officiating.
   Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.

Ashley Henderson Huff
Army 1st lieutenant
   
First Lt. Ashley Laine Henderson Huff, a former resident of Montgomery, was killed in action in Mosul, Iraq, on Sept. 19. She was 23.
   Commissioned at the University of Georgia through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps, she joined the Army in May 2004 and was deployed to Iraq in December 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where she performed the duties of a platoon leader. Her only unit of assignment was the 549th Military Police Company, 385th Military Police Battalion, Fort Stewart, Ga.
   The U.S. military has awarded her the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. She was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge.
   Born in Covington, La., she spent most of childhood in Baton Rouge, La., before moving with her family to Montgomery Township, where she completed both middle and high schools.
   She graduated from the University of Georgia in May 2004, where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority and an avid Georgia Bulldog football fan.
   She is survived by her husband, Brian M. Huff, whom she married in August 2005; parents Mark and Janet Henderson; brother Andrew and sister Abby of Buford, Ga.; grandmother Joyce Oliver of Baton Rouge; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Also surviving are father and mother-in-law Mike and Debbie Huff of Lawrenceville, Ga., and sister-in-law Christy Medlin and her husband, Ben Medlin, of Buford, Ga.
   The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Prince Avenue Baptist Church, 595 Prince Ave., Athens, Ga.
   Interment will follow in Oconee Hill Cemetery next to Sanford Stadium.
   Visiting hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Bogart, Ga.

Margaret Schaefer

PLAINSBORO — Margaret Schaefer died Sept. 20 at the University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 56.
   She was a research director for Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems and a 30-year resident of Plainsboro.
   She was an avid birder, swimmer and traveler.
   She is survived by her husband, Henry Schaefer; sister Katherine Wade of Stockton; and parents William and Margaret Scrivo of Fairmont, W.Va.
   Her burial will be in West Virginia.

Richard A. Carroll
Worked at university
   
Richard Anthony Carroll of Princeton died Sept. 21 at Princeton Care Center. He was 88.
   Born in Princeton, he was a 1939 graduate of the New Jersey School for the Deaf in West Trenton, now known as the Katzenbach Campus. While at the school, he excelled in sports and cabinetmaking and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
   Following graduation, he worked 54 years at the Mail Services Department of Princeton University, retiring in 1994.
   Son of the late Richard and Ida M. Davidson Carroll, brother of the late Donald D. Carroll, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Douglas J. and Donna Carroll of Cohocton, N.Y.; sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret C. and Stanley Pazdan of Princeton and Joyce C. and Edward Moffett of Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.
   A memorial service will be held at a later date at Trinity Church, Rocky Hill.

Edyth K. Myers
Elementary school teacher
   
BLUE BELL, Pa. — Edyth Kearney Myers, a longtime resident of Princeton, died Sept. 16. She was 81.
   Born in Flushing, N.Y., she was a New York resident before moving to Princeton in 1948.
   An elementary school teacher for more than 20 years, she first taught at Dutch Neck School in West Windsor and later at Hillcrest Elementary School and then first grade in Kingston School, both in Franklin Township.
   She attended Public School 32 Elementary School in Flushing and Bayside High School, graduating in 1942. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from Wilson College, Chambersburg, Pa., in 1946, and received a master’s degree in education from Rutgers University in 1962.
   She was a researcher at the Johnson O’Connor Research Foundation in New York City, where she met her future husband. After her husband joined Educational Testing Service, they moved to Princeton, but she continued to work in New York City at the Human Resources Department of Macy’s department store.
   She later worked as a research assistant at Princeton University and organized and taught in the nursery school at Trinity Church.
   She was one of the founding members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in 1960.
   She was an early organizer and longtime volunteer at the YWCA Princeton and Princeton Family YMCA and the Princeton chapter of the American Red Cross. She taught many swimming and first aid classes through those organizations.
   She was an avid swimmer and tennis player.
   Daughter of the late Edward H. and Edith Seymour Kearney, wife of the late Charles T. "Chuck" Myers, who died in 2000, she is survived by daughters Kit Donner of Siler City, N.C., and Pamela Bagdis of Blue Bell, Pa.; and grandchildren Jeffrey and Kimberly Bagdis of Blue Bell.
   A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Monday at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 16 All Saints Road, Princeton.

Mary D. Sproles

MONTGOMERY — Mary Dix Sproles, a resident of Stonebridge at Montgomery, died Tuesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 93.
   Born in Montgomery, Ala., and educated in Decatur, Ala., she was a former resident of Philadelphia, Alexandria, Va., and for 48 years, Arlington, Va., before moving to Montgomery in the spring of this year.
   Mrs. Sproles was a former active member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Arlington, Va. She also had been active in The Antiques Club in Arlington and had been an avid gardener all of her life.
   Wife of the late Edward S. Sproles, she is survived by a son, Edward S. Sproles Jr. of Lawrence Township; and many nieces and nephews.
   A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Arlington.
   Burial will be in Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington.

John F. McKee Jr.
Tree surgeon
   
FLORENCE — John F. McKee Jr. died Tuesday at Virtua Memorial Hospital of Burlington, Mt. Holly. He was 21.
   Born in Princeton, he was employed as a tree surgeon.
   Mr. McKee is survived by his mother, Jane Villa; father John F. McKee Sr. and his wife, Donna; and grandparents John and Rita Gibson.
   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
   Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
