Kudos to artists.
There’s a lot going on in Hillsborough during the fall months, but one event is sure to continue to grow: the Hillsborough Cultural and Arts Commission’s art festival.
Now in it’s second year, the festival has grown and improved, drawing more participants and offering more activities.
We salute the organizers for recognizing the possibilities in the festival, extending its offerings to include writing as well as visual arts, and are excited about the possibilities for the future.
Studies have shown communities with recognized artistic communities tend to enjoy better economic growth and we think local businesses could benefit from some involvement with the fledgling festival.
We’re already home to performance groups such as the Millstone Valley Choral Society, Raritan Valley Symphonic Band and Raritan Valley Choral Society, several top-notch high-school musical groups, the Somerset Valley Players, and undoubtedly, hundreds of talented but unaffiliated musicians.
We all have neighbors with unseen skills with watercolors, oil paints, charcoal and pen, while many others toil away writing novels and books at midnight.
Who knows what the festival could grow into with its current stewards, but we can see it outgrowing the current format as more and more residents become familiar with its programs.
