Valley YMCA picks CEO

Anne L. Thornton chosen

   The Hopewell Valley YMCA has appointed Anne L. Thornton as CEO.
   Ms. Thornton previously served as branch executive director of Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA in Sussex County. She is a certified YMCA senior director, having completed nationally developed coursework delivered by the YMCA of the USA. She also brings 15 years of professional YMCA experience, serving in many capacities including Outdoor Center director at Camp Speers-Eljabar and YMCA and youth director at the Milford/Orange YMCA in Connecticut.
   As CEO, Ms. Thornton will be responsible for the direction and management of the YMCA programs, events, and volunteers at the Valley YMCA.
   "I have a passion for quality service," said Ms. Thornton, "I believe the YMCA’s mission to serve to needs of the community is the central most important part of what a YMCA offers. I was drawn to this opportunity because of the great YMCA programs already being offered as well as the promise of more to come."
   Ms. Thornton was selected by the Board of Directors after a search effort using a high-structured process designed by the National YMCA. "We had a number of very strong candidates for the CEO position, but Anne stood out above the rest due to her combination of experience and undeniable commitment to community service," commented Jon Spencer, board president.
   Ms. Thornton grew up in New Hope and graduated from New Hope-Solebury High School in 1986 and Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1990. She resides in Titusville with her husband Tony, and daughters, Helen, 8, and Karen, 4.
