Charles Francis Russell

SARASOTA, FLA. — Charles F. Russell, 63, died at Princeton University Medical Center.
Born in Trenton, he resided in Sarasota, Fla. and Forked River.
He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a retired vice president of Technology for Dow Jones.
In his professional life, he worked with a talented group of engineers and technicians to move the Wall Street Journal to its prominent position as an information instrument. He was instrumental in starting up both the European and Asian editions of the paper. After retiring from Dow Jones Inc., he worked with a startup company in Provo, UT as chief operations officer. He loved the challenge of developing and refining new technology. He was on the Board of the Business School of Rider University and the University of San Francisco.
Mr. Russell, known to most as "Russ," had many interests. He read widely about the lore of the American Cowboy and the drama of the Civil War. He liked everything about cars. As an engineer, he understood how things worked and he was the "go-to-guy" when there were problems to be solved. As a manager, he understood how to develop the potential in those who worked for him and with him.
He was an excellent charter captain and his clients rarely returned empty handed from a trip. Whether in the Barnegat Bay, the near coastal waters of the Atlantic, on tuna trips, charters in the Caribbean or the waters of Alaska, he nearly always returned with a good catch. The accomplishment that he was most proud of was his Coast Guard captain’s license.
Son of the late Marion Finnegan Russell, he is survived by his wife of 39 years, Sandra Mercantini Russell; his son and daughter-in-law, Charles Matthew and Catherine Russell of Washington, D.C. and his granddaughter, Kelly Victoria Russell; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leopold and Mary Mercantini of Bordentown; his sister-in-law and her husband, Frances and Albert Gayzik Jr. of Hamilton Township; his brother-in-law and his wife, William and Carol Mercantini of Bordentown and his nephews, Adam Gayzik, Scott Gayzik and his wife Caroline, William Mercantini and Nicholas Mercantini.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, Bordentown.
   Interment followed in Bordentown Cemetery.
