Both WW-P high schools holding fundraising fairs Saturday

West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North and High School South have both scheduled arts-oriented fundraisers Saturday — and organizers are confident they’ll attract sizeable turnouts despite the overlap.
Local buyers and sellers will gather at High School South from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the school’s annual fall flea market, which is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Student Association.
According to organizer Mike Mancini, vendors have rented spaces in the high school parking lot for $15 each, with the proceeds going toward the PTA/PTSA scholarship fund and minigrant program for school clubs and post-prom activities. Mr. Mancini said the event is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year, and typically brings in between $1,000 and $1,500.
Vendors can sign up for space until 8 a.m. the day of the event, he said, adding that most vendors will be selling household items, toys or clothes.
In addition, he said, class officers will be selling refreshments to raise money for their class funds.
"It’s mostly adult (vendors), but the students will be there as part of their clubs or boosters," he added. "A lot of the sports teams and clubs will have tables where they’ll be selling things to raise money."
High School North’s fundraiser, "Fall Fest 2006 Crafts & More Show," will take place the same day from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
That fundraiser is also sponsored by the school’s Parent Teacher Student Association, and will feature more than 125 vendors and crafters selling items ranging from handmade purses to pet clothing and accessories to hand-carved wooden bowls. Vendors will also be selling food, including baked goods, homemade fudge and flavored oils.
Mr. Mancini said he is not worried that the timing of the two fundraisers will hurt attendance at either one.
"It’s possible people will be hitting both places," he said. "I think we were both unaware of each other’s event. I’m not really concerned about it. Sometimes these things happen."
