Menendez makes
case for Kean
To the editor:
Bob Menendez has two ads currently running on New York television.
In the first ad he pontificates about the relationship of the Kean campaign to a convicted felon. They even show a side-view mug shot of this deplorable person.
What they neglect to mention is that the convicted felon is former Hudson County Executive Robert Janiszewski. Mr. Janiszewski, a Democrat’s Democrat and an advisor to and crony of Bob Menendez, is incarcerated due to a conviction for public corruption.
Mr. Janiszewski is just another in a long line of corrupt Democrats from Hudson County that Mr. Menendez has no problem associating with.
The second ad has Mr. Menendez stating that he wants to bring the troops home from Iraq "soon." Soon! That is exactly what the president has been saying. As soon as the job is done, they will come home.
On behalf of the president, thank you, Bob, for your support of the Republicans on this issue.

Cranbury needs
field hockey
To the editor:
In last week’s edition of the Press, I read with great interest an article detailing a recent request to add lacrosse to the list of sports offered at Cranbury School.
Several weeks ago, I was pleased to sign a similar petition requesting that field hockey be added to the sports offerings at Cranbury School.
I am sure that the Board of Education will review both these requests in a fair manner, and to that end I would like to add a point to consider. Lacrosse is a sport that many young people in Cranbury (male and female) have the opportunity to participate in through local recreation leagues. Field hockey, however, is not available even as a recreation sport to the young people of Cranbury.
Upon entering Princeton High School, Cranbury students learn that their classmates from John Witherspoon have already had the opportunity to learn the sport.
Given these facts I hope the Cranbury Board of Education will consider adding the sport of field hockey.

Open house
a success
To the editor:
On behalf of the members of the Cranbury Township Police Department, I would like to thank those residents who took the time to attend our open house on a particularly beautiful Saturday morning last month. I hope you enjoyed the guided tours and the refreshments as much as we enjoyed the opportunity to provide them.
In addition, I want to express my appreciation to the members of the Township Committee, both past and present, for providing us with a tremendous facility that will continue to serve us well into the future. Last, but by no means least, a special thanks to Township Administrator Tom Witt, Department of Public Works Foreman Jerry Thorne, and all of the Public Works employees for the fabulous landscaping transformation that they performed. Way to go guys, you really came through for us.

Evolution
is unproven
To the editor:
I have a screen saver on my computer that shows swimming tropical fish. It made me think of evolution.
Those who believe in evolution just aren’t with it. Those who believe something came from nothing have a problem.
If one were to believe such nonsense, one would have to believe some slime was struck by lightning and life was created. Well the protoplasms weren’t happy and decided to become something else. So they swam around in the slime and started to think about being something else. Now remember everything supposedly came from the slime. Somehow this slime became peaches, apples, pears, plums, potatoes, lettuce, beets, sugar cane, wheat, rye, barley, hops, beans, skunk cabbage, bacteria, seaweed, and you name it. Thank goodness for the hops or there wouldn’t be any good beer. Some decided to be apes, but they weren’t happy either so they decided to be people.
Now remember, to be anything something had to come from nothing and you know what, we have arrived. How stupid does one have to be who believes we all came from nothing. I know a few. I thought I learned that nothing can come from nothing.
Coincidentally, I read an article in the paper about two American scientists winning a Nobel Prize for work on the early universe. The article stated their work helped "cement the Big Bang theory." Doesn’t sound like evolution to me. Then I read an article about someone finding "Salem" who is 100,000 years older than our previous earliest relative "Lucy." How ridiculous can one be? They chipped him/her/it out of a rock formation.
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a letter to the editor regarding the ACLU being awarded $2 million from a school board in Pennsylvania because they said there was a book in the library about creationism. In response, someone sent me a list of all the great things the ACLU has done. Because the sender did not identify himself I would suggest the sender does not have the courage of his convictions. The person must be embarrassed about the ACLU.

Guilt by association
not appropriate
To the editor:
One of your correspondents last week questioned Sen. Robert Menendez’s integrity and lumped him with a long list of corrupt New Jersey politicians, a deplorable device known as guilt-by-association.
The important aspect of the senate race is not the as-yet unproved allegations against Sen. Menendez, some of which were decisively refuted by The New York Times, but rather where the candidates stand on issues.
Tom Kean Jr. has declared his support for President Bush’s Iraq policy; Sen. Menendez voted against the war. Mr. Kean favors privatizing Social Security; Sen. Menendez supports the existing system.
If you believe that we should "stay the course" in Iraq (whatever that means), and destroy the most successful social policy adopted in the United States in the 20th century, then by all means, vote for Mr. Kean.

Funeral brough out
best in Cranbury
To the editor:
Last Saturday, Oct. 7, I directed the funeral services for H. Wallace Schanck at the Cole Funeral Home. Several organizations in Cranbury participated in the services and also provided support and help to the family. The Cranbury Fire Company, Cranbury First Aid Squad and the Cranbury Police Department were all instrumental in providing a meaningful and honorable tribute for Mr. Schanck, a gentleman who had served his community for many years with one or more of these organizations throughout his life. The participation of these groups was very appropriate and I would like to commend and thank all the members of these organizations for their participation and their hours of continued help during the several days prior to the funeral. The witness of their true compassion for the loss of one of their members was extremely meaningful.
The members of the Cranbury Fire Company and Cranbury First Aid Squad are all volunteers and I believe many people take their presence and volunteerism for granted. Our community needs to recognize these members and congratulate them for their interest, their time and their dedication to Cranbury. My sincere thanks to all of you.
