Parking lot yard sale helps out MTHS seniors

MONROE On Saturday, Oct. 14, Monroe residents will have a chance to clean out their closets and attics, and if they choose to, fill them up again with something else.
The Monroe Township High School Parent Teacher Organization will be having its annual yard sale in the MTHS parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The yard sale is one of the main moneymakers for the PTO.
"We do a limited amount of fundraising because we’re competing with all of the other classes, school organizations and sports teams," said Kathy Kolupanowich, school board member and current PTO treasurer. "This is one of three fundraisers we do per year."
The money raised by the PTO goes toward scholastic achievement, scholarships and gifts for the school, she said. In particular, the yard sale will benefit the senior class.
"One of our basic functions is to give out scholarships to the seniors, and so we’re looking to raise funds for the scholarships," said PTO member Cheryl Allamby.
She said quite a few vendors have already signed up.
"We’ve sold close to 50 spots," Ms. Allamby said. She added that, considering the size of the parking lot, there would be room for at least 50 more.
While everyone is welcome, there are some restrictions as to what can or cannot be sold.
"No vendor is allowed to sell alcohol, drugs, pornography, or anything else that would be unacceptable at a high school," Ms. Kolupanowich said.
They also have restrictions on selling refreshments, as they will be provided by the PTO itself.
"We’re a very big community, but there are not a lot of areas of Monroe to have a yard sale," Ms. Kolupanowich said. "So this gives people an opportunity to have one."
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. There is no rain date scheduled.
For information on how to get involved as a vendor, contact Ms. Kolupanowich at (732) 446-1709.
