Rowland Park to offer 79-acres of fun and open space

Residents have 79 more reasons to head outside.
On Saturday, the township will dedicate the 79-acre Rowland Park on Broadway Road with hayrides around the park, an inflatable jumping ride and free refreshments, including cider, doughnuts and cotton candy. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
The park, which was completed last week, features four Little League baseball fields, a full-size baseball field, a softball field and two multipurpose fields that can be used for soccer, football and lacrosse, said Tom Morris, director of Recreation and Community Affairs. All of the fields are lighted and have water fountains and irrigated sprinkler systems, he said.
The township paid $450,000 and the county paid $1.2 million to the Bashaw family to purchase the land. The fields and other amenities cost $6.5 million.
Also on tap for the day will be regularly scheduled Police Athletic League flag football, South Brunswick Soccer Club soccer, and South Brunswick Athletic Association baseball games, Mr. Morris said.
The entrance to the park is on Broadway Road about one-eighth of a mile east of Rowland Road.
"We’d love to have everyone to come and see us," Mr. Morris said.
