Princeton University President Shirley M. Tilghman will become the first recipient of the Arts Council of Princeton’s Arts Vision Award during a presentation to take place during the ACP’s "Dining by Design" gala fundraiser on Oct. 28. The gala will be held in the Carl Icahn Laboratory on campus.
"The Arts Vision Award will be given annually to an individual who has shown exceptional leadership and vision for the arts in the Princeton community," says executive director Jeff Nathanson. At last year’s "Dining by Design," the ACP honored founding director Anne Reeves, inspiring the conception of an institutionalized award.
The 2006 Arts Vision Award will be bestowed upon President Tilghman for the leadership exemplified by the university’s ambitious Arts Initiative unveiled in January. The initiative includes plans for substantially increased support for creative and performing arts and the establishment of an "Arts Neighborhood" for the greater Princeton community.
The award presentation to President Tilghman will occur during the pre-dinner cocktail reception scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Guests will then go on to enjoy arts- and science-themed dinner parties at Princeton-area private homes.
All funds raised by "Dining by Design" will be dedicated to the Arts Council’s Community Youth Programs, which benefit at-risk and homeless youth.
