On Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., a free Latin American Health Fair la Feria de la Salud will take place in Community Park School, Princeton, which is located at 327 Witherspoon St. The event will be fully bilingual those attending who speak little or no English will encounter no obstacles.
The event is being sponsored by the Princeton HealthCare System’s Community Education & Outreach Program, the Latin American Task Force and the Hispanic American Medical Association of New Jersey.
A wide range of free health screenings and other services will be available to comers of all ages and both genders. A special emphasis is being placed on the preventation, diagnosis and treatment of Type 2 diabetes, which has as high incidence among the Latin American population.
While The Packet acknowledges that English is the foundational language of the United States and that most of our readers may not be fluent in Spanish, we believe that the public interest is best served by the publication of this week’s Health Matters in Spanish.
It seems self-evident to us that the health and well-being of a substantial minority population in our midst a population often working in low paying service industries, whose children may not be receiving the health care that the rest of us take for granted is and ought to be a matter of concern to the entire community.
We urge readers to disseminate this week’s column to those Latin Americans of their acquaintance whom they suspect would benefit from attendance at the Latin American Health Fair. The fair will serve all who come, no questions asked.
