Salvatore J. Schiliro, 92, of Monroe Township, died Thursday, Oct. 12, at his home in Greenbriar at Whittingham.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Howard Beach, N.Y. in 1957, where he lived for 11 years before moving to Morganville in 1968, and finally to Monroe in 1994.
He served in the Army as an officer during World War II and was employed by the United States government as a purchasing agent for 25 years, before his retirement in 1972. He was a great fan of the N.Y. Yankees and was an avid player of the stock market.
His wife, Patricia, died in 1997. He is survived by three sons, Frank of Monroe, Vincent and his wife, Beth, of East Brunswick, and Paul and his wife, Kiersten, of Fredericksburg, Va.; four daughters, Nancy Schiliro of Somerset, Josine M. Schiliro of Freehold, Margaret Schiliro of New York City and Mary Hill and her husband, Dan, of New York City; three grandchildren, Chelsea and Nicholas Schiliro, and Nina Hill; a nephew, Maurice DeFina; and a niece, Yolanda Rinaldi.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 14, at M. David DeMarco Funeral Home 205, Rhode Hall Road Monroe, N.J. 08831. Interment followed at St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y.
