Greyhound hockey best in show in win over Scotties

Bordentown gave its best shot, but in the end the Northern Burlington High School field hockey team’s experience won out as the Greyhounds beat the Scotties, 4-0, last Thursday at Northern Burlington.
"The first five minutes of the game they (The Scotties) were really pressuring us," noted NBC Coach Joanne Hensch. "Bordentown played well and they had nice stick work."
However, the Greyhounds were the more aggressive team and consequently they scored four goals, including two by Jess Kotelnicki. Sophomore Rachel Pandl scored NBC’s first goal in the opening half.
"She’s (Pandl) been playing left wing for me and she’s really stepped up her game," Hensch remarked. Jess Nutt scored the Greyhounds’ final goal of the contest while Danielle Terracciano chipped in with two assists. Jess Ridolfino won the defensive award and Marie Worsham took home the hustle award in the Bordentown game.
"All of our underclassmen did a nice job," noted Hensch. Jeanette Belger had four saves for Northern.
Last Wednesday, NBC and Pemberton played to a 1-1 tie.
"Danielle Terracciano scored on the left side of the field," said Hensch. Terracciano, who also won the attack award, scored another goal in the contest but it was waved off for being a dangerous play.
"Rebecca Capoccia got the defensive award. She had a great game," said Hensch, whose team gave the hustle award to Worsham in the Pemberton game. Belger started and made five saves in the first half and then Kristen Holden came in and stopped five shots in the second stanza.
NBC was supposed to have hosted Burlington Township this past Tuesday. That game was pushed back a day ( to yesterday) because the officials were never scheduled for the game. NBC (7-5-1) is scheduled at Holy Cross today (Thursday). It is scheduled to play New Egypt on Saturday. Then on Monday, NBC is scheduled to play a first- round NJSIAA Group III Central Jersey playoff game at Hightstown.
   FLORENCE

For most of the season the Florence Township Memorial High School girls’ field hockey team has searched up and down its lineup to find a player (or players) who could score on a consistent basis.
Well, the Flashes may have finally found that player in junior Joelle Tolifero.
"Next year she’s (Tolifero) going to be a forward," said Florence Coach Gina Smith, who had been using Tolifero in the back.
Tolifero scored off a corner with 7:39 left in the first half to lead the Flashes to a 2-0 win over Maple Shade in this past Tuesday’s home game.
Emily Million scored Florence’s other goal with 54 seconds left in regulation and Katelyn Dmitruck made six saves to earn the shutout.
"We completely dominated the game. The whole team played well," said Smith.
Tolifero and Million had also scored in this past Monday’s 4-2 loss to Cinnaminson.
"Dmitruck played well. She had 11 saves," added Smith.
Last Wednesday Delran hosted and defeated Florence, 3-1. Tolifero scored a goal.
"The kid is really coming up big," said Smith of Tolifero.
Florence (7-10) is scheduled at Cherry Hill West today (Thursday).
