To spread awareness of domestic violence and raise money for anti-domestic violence programs, the Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerville will be holding its sixth annual fundraising gala Nov. 10 at the Bridgewater Marriott.
The black-tie dinner and dance event will honor two special guests during the evening including former-Gov. Christine Todd Whitman and Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. representative Meg Lachance.
"They will talk about their support of awareness of domestic violence," said Paloma Amar-Coleman, executive director of the Resource Center.
The Resource Center for Women and Their Families in Somerset County aims to prevent domestic violence by providing protection, education and resources to victims.
Ms. Coleman said the gala is being held to raise money for the Resource Center programs including the 24-hour hotline and the safe house for battered women. She said the Resource Center expects about 350 to attend the event.
"The funds go toward our operational costs," Ms. Amar-Coleman said. "It’s to keep these programs going."
During the evening a survivor of domestic violence will speak about her experiences with abuse and the night will continue with an auction.
"It’s an event that is open to the public and geared toward the community," Ms. Amar-Coleman said.
Live music, a silent auction and a raffle will also be part of the evening.
Tickets are $250 per person and can be purchased by calling Joanne Kaiser at 359-0003, ext. 209.
