Jeffrey Winslow Higginbottom, 61, died Tuesday at his home in New York City.
Born in Worcester, Mass., he moved in 1952 to Pennington, where he spent his childhood.
He received a bachelor’s degree in illustration and design from Syracuse University in 1967 and a master’s degree in scenic and costume design from Yale University in 1970.
Mr. Higginbottom was senior designer for Tavern on the Green, where he created many projects for the LeRoy Family over the past 30 years, including Great Adventure, Maxwell’s Plum, Tavern on the Green and the makeover of the Russian Tea Room.
Although known best for his restaurant design, his varied career in the art and design field included illustrating 12 children’s books, designing sets for Broadway shows and working on the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, and New York New York and Paris casinos in Las Vegas.
Son of the late Barbara Higginbottom, he is survived by his father Russell Higginbottom; a sister Andrea Higginbottom and Molly, all of Titusville; and many friends.
Friends may call at the Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The funeral will follow at the Pennington Presbyterian Church, 13 S. Main St., at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in the Pennington Cemetery.
A celebration of his life will be held at Tavern on the Green in New York at a later date.
