After a successful year for the Manville High School Future Business Leaders of America club, the group is re-energized for another year after its Oct. 25 swearing-in ceremony.
"This is the beginning of the year for us and the beginning of our competitions," Nancy Ostazewski, FBLA advisor, said after the opening remarks by MHS Principal Mary McLoughlin.
FBLA President Amanda Bron read the group’s creed, which emphasizes education, personal responsibility and a cooperation between business, social and community groups, to the group before Ms. Ostazewski offered answers to "What is FBLA?"
"Our students rose to the occasion many, many times," she said. "Last year, we had over 10 students place at regions, and two of our officers placed as outstanding officers.
"They have made a name here in town," Ms. Ostazewski added. "This year alone we are starting out with many professionals that have come out to our meetings."
Ms. Ostazewski’s address was followed by student addresses by Amanda Johnson (on the "Future"), Samantha Aichele’s speech "Business," Kyle Sopko on leaders, and Leo Rodriguez’s "America."
After they read the addresses, Vice President Jonathan Andrade helped with the induction of members.
The group of over 80 members took their oath along with the newly elected officers. The officers then preceded one at a time onto the stage to light a candle and recite their duties.
FBLA 2006-2007 officers include President Amanda Bron, Vice President Jonathan Andrade, Secretary Alisha Hall, Treasurer Tom Rock, public relations Mike Knitowski, historians Monika Ozieblo, Sylwia Kolodziej and Lisa Daniel, parliamentarian Juliana Andrade and webmaster Jack Calvo.
Amanda gave a few words after the installation.
"As the newly inducted president of the Manville High School Chapter 3985, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our members triumph in all of our competitive events this year," she said. "I encourage you to participate in as many events as possible and to increase your opportunities to become a competent business leader. I’d like to thank the administration, staff and all the newly inducted members for attending."
The FBLA has a few sponsors for the chapter and is looking for some more to help so the students can participate with their projects at the levels of competition.
Potential sponsors may contact Ms. Ostazweski at Manville High School.
