Nurko’s goals lift AHS to win in playoff opener

    The Allentown High School field hockey team opened defense of its Central Jersey Group II title with a 2-1 win at Point Pleasant Boro this past Tuesday.
    Kasie Nurko scored both goals for Allentown. Samantha Podhurst and Caitlyn Crane had assists. Stephanie Stabulis made six saves in goal.
    "The team found a way to win," Allentown Coach Mary Ellen McCarthy said. "We put the ball in the cage when we needed to."
    After knocking off the third seed, Allentown, seeded sixth, will have shot at number two on Friday. Allentown will play at Delran at 2 p.m.
    "We’re all excited to be moving on to the next round," McCarthy said.
