HHS girls ousted in volleyball playoffs

Best season in brief history ends at Cherokee

The Hillsborough High girls’ volleyball team saw the best season in its three-year history come to an end in Friday’s second round of the State Group 4 playoffs at Cherokee.
Only in their third year of varsity competition, the HHS girls qualified for the state playoffs for the first time. After opening the Group 4 tourney with a 2-1 triumph at Colts Neck, the 24th-ranked Raiders fell at No. 8 Cherokee by scores of 25-17, 25-6.
Hillsborough (13-15) had trouble containing Cherokee’s size, especially in the second game. Cherokee advanced to Tuesday’s Group 4 quarterfinals vs. top-ranked Hunterdon Central.
"They were very good," Hillsborough head coach Todd Sudol said afterward. "We tried to make adjustments, but there was nothing we could do. I wouldn’t be surprised if they beat Hunterdon Central."
