In a contest that pitted two independent candidates against each other, Ed Zimmerman defeated Brad Merritt for mayor of Rocky Hill in Tuesday’s balloting.
Mr. Zimmerman, a registered Republican and incumbent Borough Council member, tallied 169 votes. Mr. Merritt, who also serves on the council, garnered 144 votes.
In the race for two seats on the Borough Council, Mr. Zimmerman’s running mates Bill Hallman, a registered Democrat, and Dan Harrington, a Republican were elected with 183 and 164 votes, respectively. Incumbent Eileen Uhrik and running mate Mary Regan-Seither, who were running with Mr. Merritt but were listed in the Republican column, trailed with 136 and 130 votes, respectively.
Rocky Hill voters also approved an open-space tax of 2 cents per $100 of assessed value by a vote of 179-90.
The vote totals do not include absentee or provisional ballots.
