County offers grant for Princeton skate park

Princeton Township and Princeton Borough have received a grant from Mercer County to go toward funding a new skate park slated for Hilltop Park.
The funding, allocated through the county’s "Mercer at Play" grant program, allows municipalities to renovate or build new recreation facilities. The total grant of $261,382 is designated both for playground rehabilitation and the proposed skate park.
Borough Councilman Andrew Koontz, head of Princeton’s Parks Alliance, said the group would continue to fundraise for the new skate park, because members are unsure how much it will cost. Early estimates put the park’s price at $250,000. The township and the borough have already collectively allocated $125,000 for the park’s construction.
"We really don’t know (the cost) until folks come in and bid on the projects," Mr. Koontz said. "At least what we’re doing now is generating a funding pool."
A fundraising event for the skate park has been slated for Nov. 18 at Community Park Pool from 1 to 4 p.m.
