Kofi Annan to make major policy speech at university

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is scheduled to deliver a major policy address at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, hosted by Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
The event will take place at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall.
Mr. Annan, who will step down as secretary-general in December, will highlight the dangers of global nuclear proliferation and the urgency of decisive moves toward general nuclear disarmament during his speech.
"We at the Woodrow Wilson School are honored that Kofi Annan will deliver such an important speech here at Princeton as he nears the end of his term as secretary-general," said Dean Anne-Marie Slaughter. "He has demonstrated principled and determined leadership in the face of the world’s most serious crisis and ongoing challenges."
As part of the event, undergraduate students plan to present Mr. Annan with the Crystal Tiger Award for serving as an "agent of progress." Mr. Annan will be the third recipient of the award, which recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to "enriching the human experience and who have inspired students at Princeton to pursue the same goal," according to Cindy Chou of the Crystal Tiger Award committee.
Tickets for the address were made available to university students, faculty and staff through an online lottery system, which closed Monday at noon.
Members of the public who would like to attend the event cannot participate in the lottery, but must come in person to the Richardson box office from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — or until supplies last — on Nov. 27. One ticket will be allotted per person, and all individuals must bring government-issued photo identification. Identification should also be brought the day of the event by all members of the public attending the speech, university officials said. No umbrellas, cameras or backpacks will be allowed.
The speech will be Webcast live and will be simulcast in McCosh 50 and Dodds Auditorium in Robertson Hall.
