Committeemen-elect say thanks
To the editor:
We wish to express our appreciation and gratitude to those who supported us in the recent election for Township Committee.
Thank you.
To those who supported others, please be assured that we will work for everyone to keep our community an affordable and safe place to live and raise our families. We also recognize that we will be stepping into the shoes of Joe Przywara and Bonnie Quesnel, two people who have worked tirelessly for the citizens of Plumsted over the years. We want to thank them for their all their commitments and efforts and will seek their counsel as we assume our new positions.

Open Space supporters thanked
To the editor:
A loosely organized, grassroots group of citizens from all different backgrounds and interests came together for the common cause of protecting our remaining open spaces via promotion of an open space tax in Allentown. This letter is to recognize the voters of Allentown who strongly supported the borough Open Space tax question on last week’s ballot.
This question would not have been on the ballot if not for the efforts of numerous people who gathered over 250 signatures on a petition presented to the Mayor Stu Fierstein and the Borough Council in July. Recognition is made of the 250 plus people who signed the petition as well as the following who gathered signatures including Catherine Drake, Ron Dunster, John Fabiano, John and Tessie Field, Michael and Donna Furda, Ann Garrison, Cindy Koontz, and Betsy Poinsett.
Also, thanks go to Mayor Fierstein and the Borough Council, who supported placing the question on the ballot in August. Thanks go to Monica Togna for hosting a coffee for people to obtain information on the question. Also, thanks go to the following people, who delivered flyers about the question prior to the vote, including Ann Garrison, Eileen Heddy, Jean Hunter, Martha Ploshay, Betsy Poinsett, Monica Togna and Joanne Wireman. All those people that have in any way contributed to this opportunity are recognized.
The Open Space tax passage now permits the borough to be eligible for funding from the state Green Acres Program, Monmouth County, and other sources. It also permits Allentown Borough to be a good neighbor and partner with both Upper Freehold and Washington townships, both of which already have open space taxes. Open space, along with its associated quality of life, is the legacy that we will be leaving future generations in this place. The voters of Allentown have spoken. Now it is time for all parties to work in protecting our remaining "great places."

Incumbent says thanks to supporters
To the editor:
I would like to thank all of the people who worked so hard to allow Nancy Grbelja and me to continue to work with our fellow Township Committee members to introduce positive reform. While our opponents ran a very negative campaign and refused to address the issues, you showed that their type of campaigning is dead here in Millstone Township. I am proud that we were able to prove that in America people can still win an election by running on the issues and their records, rather then by running a campaign of personal attacks.
We have accomplished much in three years with the help of many hard working volunteers, who rarely get the credit they deserve, and some of the most dedicated municipal workers in the state.
There is still a great deal to be done. While we now may have one of the best-run townships around, we still face a looming tax crisis due to the refusal of those in power in Trenton to control spending and address the state’s regressive property tax system. Only by getting involved can you help us continue our agenda of positive reform here in Millstone, and help us keep the pressure on in Trenton to force the state to reform our broken tax system and reign in their out of control spending and borrowing, as we have done here in our own home town.
Elias Abilheira Deputy Mayor, Millstone
