Pizzeria running food drive

MARLBORO – La Piazza, a local pizzeria and restaurant specializing in brick oven pizza and pasta, is celebrating its grand reopening the weekend of Nov. 17-19. Now under the new management of Ira Slad and Evan Pickus, La Piazza is organizing a food drive to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and is offering special prices and discounts to all who participate.

Members of the community are encouraged to bring nonperishable goods to La Piazza, 455 Route 520 (Bear Brook Commons), between Nov. 17-19. As an incentive for customers, each patron participating in the food drive will receive the reduced price of 75 cents per slice of pizza and buy one entrée, get the second half off.

“Being in the food business our primary goal for this event is to help support the community, especially during the holiday season,” said Slad. “We hope people throughout the community will come out and support this worthy cause.”

La Piazza will be collecting food throughout the weekend with the main event taking place in the afternoon on Nov. 18. The Breeze 107.1 FM and 99.7 FM will be on-site playing music and giving away prizes while customers bring in their donations and enjoy lunch at La Piazza from 2-4 p.m.

The most needed items are canned or fresh hams, frozen turkeys or chickens, canned fruits, canned vegetables, instant potatoes, canned and dry soup, canned tuna, peanut butter and jelly, canned pork and beans, canned juices, sip-size juices, hot and cold cereal and hot dogs.
