George Edward Murray Jr.
Mr. Murray, 90, of Manalapan, died Oct. 24, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Rego Park, Queens, N.Y., before moving to Manalapan five months ago. Prior to retiring in 1981, he was a purchasing agent for the cotton industry exchange at the World Trade Center in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was also a former communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Forest Hills, N.Y. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mildred; three sons and two daughters-in-law, James Murray and Kevin and Patti Murray, all of Manalapan, and Dennis and Denise Murray of Forest Hills; two brothers, Jerome Murray of Whiting and Frank Murray of Mineola, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at Our Lady of Mercy Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, N.Y. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
Vester Taylor
Vester L. Taylor, 74, of Freehold Township, died Nov. 5, 2006, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Hardaway, Ala., he resided in Englishtown before moving to Freehold in 1968. Mr. Taylor was a member of Laborers International Union of North America, Local No. 594, East Brunswick. He was a member of Good News Sound of Pentecost Church, Newark, where he was a deacon and member of the Trustee Board. Surviving are his wife, Jessie R. Mapp Taylor; four sons, James Ballard, Johnny Taylor, Victor Ballard and Kenneth Lester; four daughters, Ruth Billingsley, Jeaneather Taylor, Odessa Taylor, and Janet Ballard Eddings; two brothers, Phillip Taylor and English Taylor Jr.; four sisters, Bernice Unthink, Dorothy Thompson, Maggie Mae Henderson, and Betty Neal; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. The viewing was held at both the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, and the Good News Sound of Pentecost Church, 455 S. 10th St., Newark. Funeral services were held at the church, followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery,
William Stephen Fredericks Sr.
Mr. Fredericks, 83, of Millstone, died Nov. 1, 2006, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a 1941 graduate of Allentown High School, Allentown, where he played baseball and basketball. He was a draftsman for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, New Brunswick, and retired in 1987 as head draftsman. Mr. Fredericks was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in the 106th Infantry Division in France, Germany and Belgium, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged from the 368th Bombardment Group. He was an environmentalist and the owner of the Olde Sawmill Acres tree farm. He was an early member of the New Jersey Forestry Association, served on the Millstone Township Planning Board and the Monmouth County Juvenile Review Board, and participated in various Millstone community theater productions. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold. He served as both assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster for Millstone Township Boy Scout Troop No. 116, created a campground for the troop on his property, and spent weeks each summer with the Scouts at Forestburg Scout Reservation, New York. He was also a leader with the Monmouth County 4-H Club. Mr. Fredericks is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian; five children and their spouses, Kathleen of New York City, and Ruth, William Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Barbara and Jerry Ostrander, and Andrew and Patricia, all residing on his tree farm in Millstone; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y.; or the Millstone Township First Aid Squad, 911 Perrineville Road, Millstone 08535. Interment took place at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan, under the direction of Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.
