New family and old history come together

A baby girl, Ciprianna Nicole, was born on Nov. 5 to Bill and Ashley Rue, of Lawrenceville.
Ciprianna is the first grandchild for maternal grandparents, Pam and Jim Cipriano, of Jefferson Road, and paternal grandparents, Joan and Bill Rue, of Cranbury Neck Road.
Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Cipriano, of Hazelton, Pa. Ciprianna’s aunts and uncles, Jamie, Tony, Krista, Jeff, Lisa and Wes, are all happy to welcome the first member of the next generation to their families!
The Historical Society is making holiday gift giving easier with special hours at the History Center.
Visit the History Center at 6 S. Main St. on Saturday, Nov. 18 and Dec. 2, 9 and 16 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. to get all your shopping done.
The History Center also is open on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m until 1:30 p.m.
The Society has added a number of lovely gift items to its shop. In addition to a sturdy and attractive tote, there are now available sets of glassware and a matching carafe, sold separately. All feature the Tercentennial logo.
Other gift items are offered at the History Center, including the 100-percent cotton Cranbury afghan, salt-glazed crocks in limited quantities, prints and note cards
Save the date: The 10th anniversary celebration for the Cranbury Arts Council is March 24, 2007. The gala will honor the council’s founders, Sue Leson and Marty Hayden, and will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Monroe.
Later this Month, the Woman’s Club will be decorating the barrel planters along Main Street with a winter motif. If you are trimming your evergreens in the next week or two, please save the branches for the club. Clippings can be left near the outhouse behind the History Center on South Main Street.
Free flu and pneumonia immunizations will be available on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Cranbury United Methodist Church Hall, 21 N. Main St.
Flu shots are free to Middlesex County residents age 18 years and older. Pneumonia immunizations will be provided at no charge to eligible Middlesex County residents who are 65 years by appointment only.

Students in Cranbury are invited to participate in the Garden State Children’s and Teen Book Awards 2007 at the Cranbury Public Library.
The books on display have been designated by public and school librarians throughout New Jersey as the best of 2004.
After reading the selections, young readers can vote for their favorites with ballots provided at the library. Among the nominated books are both fiction and non-fiction titles for each age group. All voting must be completed by January 8, 2007.
Last weekend dozens of scouts, parents and volunteers turned out to collect and sort Scouting for Food donations.
The amount of food, clothing and hygiene items donated as well as the time spent sorting the collected items was staggering: The food alone was estimated to be nearly a ton. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and members of the 1st Presbyterian Church youth group put together 250 bags of hygiene items. They also sorted 45 50-gallon bags of clothing.
In all, 83 youth volunteers spent more than 140 hours preparing, picking up and sorting the donations, with adult volunteers spending more than 50 hours helping out.
Ginny Swanagan would like to borrow a small feather tree to use in the decoration of the Cranbury Museum parlor during the Christmas season.

To date, Team Owen & Friends has raised $4,800 for Autism Speaks, with pledges still arriving.
Walk day was great weather for Owen Dennehy and his friends 40 walkers, three riding in strollers and two dogs.
Anne Dennehy reported: "We saw some teams from other years and there were many new teams as well. The groups intermingled parents, caregivers, relatives, friends, persons with autism had fun and were encouraged to see how this movement has grown. Owen liked meeting other autistic people and he enjoyed seeing all those orange Owen & Friends T-shirts in the crowd."
