MONROE The British are invading Monroe and they want to hold your hand.
The Beatles tribute band, Beatlemania Now, will perform 7 p.m. Saturday at the Monroe Township High School Richard P. Marasco Center for Performing Arts on Perrineville Road.
Back by popular demand Beatlemania Now performed in Monroe last year the mop top lookalikes will chronicle the American leg of the Fab Four’s journey from a Liverpool pub to Shea Stadium in New York.
"The show is a very convincing of an authentic Beatles concert," said Nancie Gunkelman of the Monroe Township Cultural Arts Commission, which is sponsoring the event.
She said band members take on the personas of John, Paul, George and Ringo, play musical instruments once played by The Beatles, and don exact replicas of their clothing.
"They try to recreate that Beatles era including the screaming teenagers," said Ms. Gunkelman, adding that at the last show the audience was dancing in the aisles and even asked the faux Fab Four for autographs. "They welcome people to become exuberant, and the music, of course, just transcends a number of generations."
The cost is $12 for general admission and $8 for students and commission patrons. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Senior Center, located on the bottom floor of the Municipal Building, or at the Community Center, 120 Monmouth Road. Tickets will also be available at the door the day of the show.
