Art Gallery presents Wendi Cohen in December

The Metuchen Art Works Gallery will host artwork by Wendi Cohen in December.

The show runs from Nov. 29 to Dec. 31. Cohen’s reception is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Dec. 2 at Metuchen Art Works, 15 Station Place, Metuchen.

The necessity of art is the phrase for Cohen’s work. Plain and simple subjects with no frills are what captivate us. Mrs. Cohen’s urns, landscapes and trees are like William Carlos’ wheelbarrows, rain water or white chickens. Art here in Metuchen is not a luxury.

Cohen is influenced by German Expressionists Kakoschka and Schiele, as well as Abstract Expressionist William de Kooning. The chaotic brush strokes that exist in de Kooning’s paintings extend somewhat into her own work. The rich texture and color of her forms perhaps emanate her inner self.

The gallery will also host an open mike night from 7-10 p.m. on Dec. 16.
