MONTGOMERY — An invitational art exhibition, "Science as Muse: Eight Artistic Riffs on Science and Technology," will open at the Montgomery Center for the Arts on Nov. 28 and continue to Feb. 4 at the gallery at the 1860 House.
Sally Davidson and Alan Goldsmith are curators of the show.
Science as Muse features eight artists whose work is inspired or informed by scientific knowledge and innovation. The artists include Dahlia Elsayed, Patricia Lay, Mary Leck, Sharon Libes and Barbara Osterman — all New Jersey-based artists — as well as Jonathan Feldschuh, Susan Kaprov and Susan Munoz, from New York.
Although several of the artists have formal training in biology, physics and psychology, their paintings, photographs and sculptures result not from research and laboratory experimentation, but from their own engagement with the physical phenomena, center officials said.
The artists’ subjects and themes range from the microcosmic to the macrocosmic, from the sub-atomic to the Big Bang.
The opening reception is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 and will include gallery talks by several of the participating artists. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Mondays and Saturdays.
