Sixty-inch pipe to extend nearly two miles
By: Jake Uitti
MONTGOMERY Water main work from Willow Road to Belle Mead-Griggstown Road began Nov. 13 and will continue for about six weeks as New Jersey American Water constructs a 60-inch water transmission extension.
The company reported it needs to increase capacity during peak periods within its service area in southern Somerset County, southern Middlesex County and Mercer County. In response, it launched a multi-phase project that involves completion of a 9,000-foot section of 60-inch water transmission main from Willow Road to Mill Pond Road at Pike Run.
The first phase of the project, scheduled to be completed this year, involves the installation of about 2,000 feet of 60-inch main from the existing 60-inch main in Willow Road at Sleepy Hollow Road to a point of interconnection with an existing 36-inch water main within the grassy area at the bend in Belle Mead-Griggstown Road.
Montgomery officials said Willow Road at Sleepy Hollow Lane to Belle Mead-Griggstown Road at Red Oak Way will be closed for the work between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Willow Road and Belle Mead-Griggstown Road will be re-opened to traffic at the end of each work day.
Detours will be posted, and traffic control will be on the site. For further information, contact Leonard Nitti at New Jersey American Water Co.’s engineering department (908) 431-3263.
