LAMBERTVILLE The second phase of a four-part reconstruction project on Route 29 (Main Street) is scheduled to begin Tuesday if weather permits, said Director of Public Works Paul Cronce.
Phase 2 of the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s road project will extend from Delevan to Perry streets and require a detour for some motorists.
Southbound traffic on Route 29 will be detoured west on Elm Street, south on North Union, east on Coryell Street and back to Route 29. Elm Street will be temporarily converted into a one-way street.
Phase 1, which began in August, is continuing and is scheduled to be completed by the end of November or sometime in the beginning of December, Mr. Cronce said.
The DOT normally begins its projects on a Friday or Saturday, but the agency has agreed to begin Tuesday at the city’s request, Mr. Cronce said. He and Police Director Bruce Cocuzza informed the DOT that the city’s heavy weekend traffic should not be disrupted. During a meeting of the City Council on Monday, the mayor and council members agreed.
The $9.4 million project calls for the installation of new drainage pipes and inlets. The project is scheduled to conclude late in 2007.
Phase 3 is scheduled to begin in June with work extending on Route 29 from Perry Street to north of Cherry Street. Southbound Route 29 traffic will be detoured west on Cherry Street, south on North Union, east on Jefferson and back to Route 29.
Phase 4 is scheduled to begin in September on Route 29 between Bridge and Delevan streets. The detour during this phase will divert southbound Route 29 traffic west on Delaware, south on North Union, east on Bridge and back to Route 29.
