To increase the dialogue within the Princeton community on the AIDS epidemic, the Princeton Public Library is sponsoring a series of events that include workshops and community art projects in recognition of World Aids Day on Dec. 1.
The events, all within the "World AIDS Day Awareness and Education Week," will begin on Wednesday with a "Break the Silence: HIV/AIDS" workshop at 3:30 p.m. While addressing facts and ideas about the AIDS epidemic, the workshop will include skits and discussions by attendees that will describe their attitudes and beliefs on the life-threatening disease.
The event will take place in the library’s first-floor Community Room and is co-sponsored by the library and the HiTOPS Teen Council.
On Thursday, two sessions of a presentation covering the facts and ins and outs of the AIDS epidemic titled, "Global AIDS 101: What Is It and Why Should I Care?" will be held at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The library and the Princeton University chapter of the Student Global AIDS Campaign are sponsoring the presentation. The public, and especially high school classes, are encouraged to attend.
From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, the library will host a community art project for the Peace Tiles Project, where workshop attendees will create 7-inch square tiles using material provided along with personal items. When completed, the tiles will be displayed in the library as well as in schools or community organizations.
The workshops will also all continue on World AIDS Day on Dec. 1 from noon to 6 p.m. and are sponsored by the library, HiTOPS, Red Green Blue gift store and Mathey College at Princeton University.
