State cash to pay for road repairs

Repaving, curb repair in the future

JAMESBURG — The borough received $189,000 in state aid last week to improve three borough roads.
Oakland Road, Fernwood Lane and Front Street will be repaved and have new curbs and sidewalks installed as part of the state-funded improvement project, Business Administrator Denise Jawidzik said Monday.
The money comes from a portion of the $78.75 million allocated statewide by the Transportation Trust Fund’s Municipal Aid Program for the 2007 fiscal year, which began July 1, according to a press release issued Nov. 16 by Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, a Democrats whose district represents Monroe and Jamesburg.
Ms. Jawidzik said the borough has been working to improve infrastructure — especially in the western side of town, which is old and damaged by tree roots — and grants are essential to fund such projects.
Ms. Jawidzik said the borough will probably go out to bid for the projects after the new year and construction could begin in the spring.
