I. Oliver Karraker Jr.

I. Oliver Karraker Jr., a resident of Princeton since 1960, died Thursday at the University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 91.
   Born in Jonesboro, Ill., to Helen Elsie Rendleman Karraker and I. Oliver Karraker Sr., he earned a B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University and held a Ph.D. in French from the University of Illinois.
   His first career was professor of French at Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, N.C.
   During World War II, he was a civilian instructor in airplane mechanics for the U.S. Air Force in Lincoln, Neb., and Chanute Field, Ill.
   In 1944, he joined Western Electric as a product engineer and retired as manager, Quality Assurance East in the Engineering Division. Prior to his promotion to this position, he spent two years in Princeton as assistant manager of research administration and director of the Lehigh University Master’s Program.
   He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Karraker, to whom he was married 66 years; daughters and sons-in-law Ruth and Harry Kreider and Joyce and Art Edwards; brother and sister-in-law Louis and Patricia Karraker; grandchildren Marc Kreider, Wayne Kreider, Dr. Suzanne Edwards and Amy Sherrod; and great grandson Vance Kreider.
   The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton. The Rev. Lauren J. McFeaters from Nassau Presbyterian Church will officiate.
   Calling hours will be noon until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
   Burial will be private.

WEST WINDSOR — Cyrus L. Stember died Sunday at his residence. He was 78.
   Born in New York City, he was a former resident of Westfield and Scotch Plains before moving to West Windsor.
   A graduate of City College of New York, he was employed as national sales manager for Consolidated Lumber Corp. before retiring.
   He was a member of the New Jersey Lumber Dealers Association and had served in the Naval Reserve.
   He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Cohen Stember; daughter Susan Stember of Plainsboro; sons and daughters-in-law John and Barbara Stember of Pittsburgh, Pa., and William and Deborah Stember of Bridgewater; and grandchildren Allison, Emily, Hannah, Erika, Max and Gaby.
   The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road, West Windsor.
   The period of mourning will be observed at the Stember residence in West Windsor.
