WEST AMWELL A 21-year-old man has been charged with providing alcohol to minors during an outdoor party in West Amwell Township, including a 19-year-old who fell unconscious in a field and died.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit of the Hunterdon County prosecutor’s office served a complaint summons Nov. 22 for the disorderly persons offense to Christopher Mino, of Breckenridge Drive in Branchburg.
Jack Reid of Locktown-Sergeantsville Road, Delaware Township, was found unconscious during the early morning hours of Nov. 19 by township police, the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad and investigators from the prosecutor’s office, who had responded to several calls to 911. Mr. Reid was rushed to the Hunterdon Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. Reid had attended the party the evening of Nov. 18 on Rock Road West. Investigators refused to identify the property where the party was held because the investigation into Mr. Reid’s death is continuing, Detective Dan Hurley, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, said Nov. 22.
The prosecutor’s office declined to say if alcohol contributed to Mr. Reid’s death. Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests, according to Detective Hurley.
An 18-year-oldman from Stockton said Nov. 19 and 20 on his MySpace.com blog, "The Roach in the Darkness," that he attended the party.
He posted a letter to Mr. Reid, his friend, saying, "Jack, if you can read this, I hope you understand and can forgive us. I’m sorry you had to leave like that. I did everything I could, considering the fact I was leaning over your body for about half an hour doing CPR and trying to get you to breathe a little until the ambulance got there.
"When you ever get the chance, just somehow show us a sign that your (sic) OK and that you forgive us for what happened. OK, buddy, I’ll always be praying for you, and I’ll see you again in time."
Authorities said at least 10 people attended the party, but they still are seeking others. They are asking anyone who may have seen Mr. Reid the night he died to call either West Amwell police or Detective Peter Pfeifer of the Major Crimes Unit of the Hunterdon County prosecutor’s office.
