Light could be part of road improvements

MONROE The township is poised to move forward with road improvements and a new traffic light for three roads near The Regency at Monroe on Buckelew Avenue.
The Township Council may approve a three-party agreement Monday with Middlesex County and Toll Brothers to make improvements at the intersection of Buckelew Avenue and Mounts Mill Road, Buckelew Avenue and Spotswood-Englishtown Road, and Spotswood-Englishtown and Mounts Mill roads.
Improvements include repaving, road widening, and a traffic light at the intersection of Buckelew Avenue and Spotswood-Englishtown Road, said Township Engineer Ernie Feist.
Tolls Brothers is responsible for the cost of the construction as part of a developer’s agreement for its development, The Regency, Mr. Feist said.
Both the township and county engineer’s office have approved construction plans, he said.
The project could begin within one year and take between six and nine months to complete, Mr. Feist said.
Toll Brothers will also be responsible for a traffic analysis of the two other intersections to determine whether or not traffic lights are needed.
Mr. Feist said he doesn’t think the outcome of a traffic analysis will warrant additional traffic lights.
"Just from my own experience, those intersections really don’t have a high volume of traffic," he said.
However, the improvements will include road widening, which, he said, would make it easier for traffic lights to be installed in the future.
