Section of road will be renamed

Change to be made to help driver confusion

MONROE — The Township Council renamed a portion of Possum Hollow Road to Links Drive on Monday.
Township officials say renaming the western end of Possum Hollow Drive, which runs from Forsgate Drive to the railroad bridge, will create less of a confusion for drivers.
Possum Hollow Road used to run from Forsgate Drive to Docks Corner Road, but has since been bisected by the Costco warehouse. As a result, Possum Hollow Road became, effectively, two dead-end roads.
Township Business Administrator Wayne Hamilton said the name change is in response to concerned residents on the Forsgate Drive side of Possum Hollow Road who said tractor-trailers making shipments to Costco end up having to make U-turns in the dead end.
Costco has two access points, a major entrance on Cranbury-South River Road and a back emergency entrance at the end of the eastern section of Possum Hollow Road, which intersects with Docks Corner Road.
Mr. Hamilton said residents suggested a golf-themed name because the western portion of Possum Hollow Road abuts Forsgate Golf Course.
The name change will be effective Jan. 1, Mr. Hamilton said.
He said the name change will not affect house addresses because there are no houses on the western portion of Possum Hollow Road. Residences are confined to several housing developments off Possum Hollow Road, he said.
