A recommendation to tap district technician William Wright for the district’s technology coordinator position got the nod at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.
If approved at next week’s meeting, Mr. Wright, of Whitehall, Pa., will begin his new duties Jan. 2 at a prorated salary of $65,000 for the school year.
The appointment would fill the position left open after Technology Coordinator Joe Bires resigned last month.
"Twenty-two applied for the position, seven were interviewed and he was my top choice," Superintendent Donald Burkhardt said. "He (Mr. Wright) knows our system and is very knowledgeable with computers and technology."
Mr. Wright has been involved with PC desktop support, wiring the district and troubleshooting for the past four-and-a-half years.
"In my current position, it’s taking what we have and making sure everything is working," Mr. Wright said.
As the new technology coordinator, Mr. Wright would be responsible for implementing the three-year technology district plan, keeping the district ahead with the technology and looking to the future and other administrative responsibilities.
He would also be in charge of the entire technology department and the district’s network and servers, as well as handling the student information database.
Mr. Wright said the three-year technology plan is still in its early stages of planning.
"It’s laying out our battle plan," he said. "Those are our goals and objectives."
"I think it’s a great opportunity," Mr. Wright said. "I appreciate all the faith Dr. Burkhardt had in me."
