New post office a great gift

To the editor:

On Dec. 10 at 8 a.m. the U.S. Postal Service opened the contracted Post Office in Marrazzo’s of Robbinsville. Do your holiday mailing there.
We will have the "Grand Opening" in January 2007. This would not have been accomplished without the full cooperation of Mayor Dave Fried, U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, R-4th, and his administrator Joyce Golden.
Since January 2004 when I fist asked the Township Council if it would be permissible for me to find out about getting a post office substation, the cooperation has been outstanding. In February 2004, the Township Council passed a resolution asking Mr. Smith for assistance in obtaining a post office. Now I had to find a location. I thought I had a great location, the Red School House, but it had no restrooms.
I approached Martin Reeser when he took over the ownership of Marrazzo’s and presented him with the idea of having his store host the post office. Mr. Reeser agreed and kept in daily contact with the Postal Service.
In May 2006 it was finalized. To get the post office, Mr. Reeser had to supply three workers, pay to have them trained and build a 12 –foot by 12-foot mail room in his store. He did a great job and the community should be thankful for his cooperation. It is called a "contract" U. S. Post Office as it is not using government postal workers. Come in and take a look at it. Plenty of parking and you don’t have to go out on the highway to get to it.
I wish to thank all the members of the 2004 Township Committee: Pete Chamberlin, Mayor Fried, (who presented this resolution and moved for its adoption), Doug Tindall (who seconded the motion) Mark Tobias and Vince Calcagno. When Mr. Fried was elected Mayor one of his many projects included working very closely with Mr. Reeser and the post office officials to insure the post office project was completed.
Now we have to concentrate on getting our township name changed and then we go after our own zip code. If you ever thought of why a name change is needed, just ask Superintendent of Schools John Szabo.
Instead of negative reading about our township, we are now showing positive signs of growing up. Good things are happening. Communications with the residents and good management is showing rewards. Our schools are under good leadership. Things are looking good.
Who will benefit from this? Everybody. This was a nice holiday present to us all.
