HIGHTSTOWN — Each homeowner will pay $126 more a year for water and sewer service if the Borough Council adopts an ordinance it introduced at a
special meeting Thursday night.
A public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 27.
Introduction of the measure came 10 days after the council voted 4-2 against a proposal that would have raised the bill to the average homeowner by what
Borough Administrator Candace Gallagher estimated would have been about $125.
This time, the vote was 5-1, with Councilman Patrick Thompson the only dissenter. Council members Ryan Rosenberg, Walter Sikorski and Constance
Harinxma changed their votes.
The ordinance calls for an across-the-board increase in base rates only.
The base water usage rate was last changed in 2005, according to Ms. Gallagher. The water and sewer usage rates and the base sewer rate have been stable since 2002, she said.
