Giovanni Mattera

Giovanni Mattera of Princeton died Wednesday at Princeton Care Center. He was 86.
   Born in Barano D’Ischia, Italy, he came to the United States in 1947, settling in New York City. He moved to Princeton in 1950.
   He began work at the Princeton Inn, now Forbes College at Princeton University, as a chef. He retired in 1985 after 29 years of service with Princeton University’s Department of Building Services. During this time, he also worked at the Institute for Advanced Study for 25 years.
   He was a member of Roma Eterna.
   He served six years in the Italian merchant marines during World War II.
   Son of the late Joseph and Filomenna Mattera, brother of the late Vincenzo Mattera and Bridgetta DiMasi, he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Angelina L.; sons and daughters-in-law Joseph and Debbie of Manalapan, John M. and Marie of Burlington, Anthony R. and Rose Marie of Hamilton and Mario S. and Coleen of Lawrence; daughter and son-in-law Sylvana and David Acolia of Florence; brother and sister-in-law Alfonso and Angelina Mattera of Italy; grandchildren Jolene, Theresa Marie, Anthony, Nicholas, Michael, Daniel and Grace Ann; and great-grandson John.
   The funeral will be 8:30 a.m. Monday at Mather-Hodge Funeral Home, 40 Vandeventer Ave., Princeton.
   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
   Burial will be in Princeton Cemetery.
   Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
   Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society of New Jersey, Mercer County Chapter, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Marianna Consoli


Longtime Princeton resident
   
Marianna Consoli of Princeton Township died Thursday at the University Medical Center at Princeton. She was 98.
   Born in Ischia, Italy, Mrs. Consoli emigrated to the United States in 1932 and was a Princeton resident for 74 years.
   She was an employee of John G. Hibben and his wife, Jenny. Dr. Hibben succeeded Woodrow Wilson as president of Princeton University in 1912 and retired in 1932.
   She was a communicant of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of Lega Marconi at Dorothea’s House in Princeton.
   Wife of the late Carlo Consoli, she is survived by a son, Peter Consoli of Princeton; daughter Catherine Consoli of Princeton; sister Emma Cefaloni of Hobe Sound, Fla.; special friend John Zullo; and many nieces and nephews.
   A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St., Princeton.
   Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton.
   Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton.

Marvin Brown

Marvin Brown of Princeton died Wednesday at University Medical Center at Princeton. He was 79.
   Born and raised in Princeton, he owned and operated the Princeton Clothing Company on Witherspoon Street in Princeton, a family-run business.
   He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughters and son-in-law Cherylann Brown and Lisa and Kevin Carrier; brother Benjamin; grandsons Adam and Richard Brown; and other relatives.
   Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Ave., Princeton.
   Burial will follow in Princeton Cemetery.
   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Joanna Plimpton


Son lives in Montgomery
   
NEEDHAM, Mass. — Joanna Blumenstein Plimpton died Saturday after a brief illness.
   Born in Kassel, Germany, of French Hugenot ancestry, baptized in the Lutheran church, she was a longtime resident of Wellesley, Mass., and Stuart, Fla.
   Mrs. Plimpton was an active member of the Wellesley Village Church and past president of the Village Churchwomen. She was also past president of the Wellesley chapter of the Florence Crittenden League. She was an active member of the House and Garden Club of Wellesley and an enthusiastic golfer at the Wellesley Country Club.
   She attended the University of Maryland and Drake Business School.
   Wife of the late Fred F. Plimpton, she is survived by sons Conrad A. Plimpton of Tucson, Ariz., and Jonathan F. Plimpton of Montgomery; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
   A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at North Hill, 865 Central Ave., Needham, Mass. Condolences may be directed to Jonathan Plimpton, 54 Sourland Hills Road, Skillman, NJ 08558.
