BRHS girls carry unbeaten bowling mark into 2007

On most days, the Bordentown Regional High girls’ varsity bowling team is virtually unbeatable. But even the Scotties’ Supergirls do have their own version of Kryptonite that they have to fight.
The weakness is Thunderbird Lanes, a place where both the Scotties’ girls and boys have never bowled well. So going into last Wednesday’s (December 20) match at Thunderbird versus a very good New Egypt, the Scotties knew they were in for their toughest match of the season, and it was. And after seven consecutive 4-0 wins to start the season, the Scotties and the Warriors tied 2-2.
"We won the first game by 57 pins. They won the second by 35 pins and they won the third by 9," said Bordentown head coach Ron Jones, whose team had a 2,379-2,366 advantage in the total pincount. Yet even in a tie, the Scotties’ numbers were somewhat impressive.
Cathy Jones rolled a 527 series with games of 178,160 and 189. Kim Limani, the Scotties’ great superstar who has never liked bowling at Thunderbird, nonetheless, posted a 196 high game in her 508 series. Bordentown’s Melissa Jones bowled about her average with a 494 series, which included games of 144, 174 and 176. And Brittany Havens recorded a 463 series with a 163 high game.
Despite another incredible performance by Rusty Miller, who rolled a 665 series (204, 235,226), New Egypt defeated the Bordentown boys, 4-0. Previously the Scotties’ boys bowling team had captured seven straight 3-1 wins to start the season.
"Rusty (Miller) had another great night. He’s doing well," said Jones. "But I don’t want to take anything away from the New Egypt bowlers (who were very good)."
Kyle McGonigal also bowled a solid 532 series (161,198, 173) for Bordentown, but the Scotties did not have that third guy step up like they usually do.
"We used four guys (Greg Rosen, Ryan McDonald, Mark Brown and Chris Schaeffer) in the other three spots," added Jones, who was looking for just the right mix.
Still, even with their best game it would have been difficult for the Scotties’ boys team to have beaten the Warriors. Both Bordentown teams will be off until January 4th when they are slated to play at Ewing. However, most of the Scotties are getting in their practices because they almost all play in local leagues.
   PAPP

Bordentown local legend Ron Papp recently rolled a 300 game in a 765 series in a Central Jersey Majors competition at Papp’s.

   Great Scott!
The Northern Burlington County Regional High boys’ varsity bowling team used a great performance by Greg Scott to down Moorestown 3-1 at Thunderbird Lanes on Wednesday, December 20th.
"Our high series was a from Greg Scott with a 612 and he bowled a 234 high game," said NBC head varsity bowling coach Ed Del Russo, who was very pleased with Scott’s performance.
But Scott was far from a one-man gang. In fact, Rich Mellor threw a stellar 569 series, which featured a high game of 193. Brandon Mauer rolled a 202 high game.
Meanwhile the NBC girls enjoyed an easy 4-0 win over Moorestown.
"Lindsey Webster had our high series and had a high game of 202," noted Del Russo.
Shannon Wilkins was the other Greyhound star with a 516 series and a 189 high game. But everyone seemed to get in on the act for the Greyhounds.
"Priscilla Medenbach she bowled a 183 game. She was on call up from JV," Del Russo added.
The NBC girls varsity bowling team is 5-2 while the boys’ team is now 3-4.
NBC is scheduled to be off until January 3rd when it has a scheduled practice at Thunderbird Lanes. Then on January 4th, both Northern Burlington varsity bowling squads are scheduled to return to action with games on the road versus Westampton Tech.
