Har Sinai Temple is officially on its way to Hopewell Township.
The temple held its final Sabbath service in its Bellevue Avenue building in Trenton on Friday night.
The synagogue, the first to be located in Hopewell Valley, is moving to 2411 Route 31 in Hopewell Township.
By the end of this week, Har Sinai expects to have moved it religious and administrative staff to an existing house on its 9-acre property. An office building on the property will be renovated for use as a religious school, chapel/multipurpose room and offices.
"Our goal is to finish the renovations of the office building and be all moved in by next summer," Har Sinai President Marilyn Weinstein said Tuesday.
"We’re very excited about this move and thrilled to become part of the Hopewell Valley community."
On Jan. 5, Har Sinai will temporarily begin holding services in Ahavath Israel Temple on Lower Ferry Road in Ewing. The services will be held there until the new temple on Route 31 is ready.
Har Sinai Temple has agreed to a Dec. 29 closing date for the sale of its building at 491 Bellevue Ave. to the Mount Bethel Church of God of Hamilton. The synagogue, the oldest Jewish congregation in the Delaware Valley, has been at the Bellevue Avenue location since 1929.
