Township Committee vote draws cheers from large audience.

MANSFIELD The Township Committee voted 3 to 1 against an ordinance that would have allowed large billboards along several highways on Wednesday night amid cheers from the approximately 100 residents who attended.
At the public hearing, many residents who were opposed to the proposed ordinance wore green T-shirts with the slogan: "Mansfield: preserve our county."
Some of the main points that were discussed were how the Planning Board had previously voted against the billboards, and many residents felt that the Township Committee should do the same.
Residents who supported the ordinance claimed the Township Committee would be wise to take this opportunity to acquire a ratable, because it doesn’t come around often and it would mean tax relief.
LaVerne Cholewa voted for the ordinance, while the majority, including Kenneth Denti, Jamie Devereaux and Terri Tallon-Hammill, all voted against the ordinance. Mayor Art Puglia did not participate in the vote, due to a conflict of interest.
