Citizenship award goes to Plainsboro’s Mayor Cantu

   PLAINSBORO — The Indian American Civic Forum of Mercer/Middlesex counties has selected Plainsboro Mayor Peter Cantu as its Thomas Jefferson Citizen of the Year.
   Mayor Cantu received the award at the Indian American Civic Forum Annual Felicitation Dinner on Dec. 9.
   According to the organization, the award winner is selected based on his or her dedication to peace, equality and fairness, as Jefferson and the founding fathers of America personified.
   "Without question we felt that Mayor Peter Cantu is deserving of this award for his many years of service to his state and community," Ram Kolluri, chairman of the board of trustees, said in a press release.
   "Peter Cantu has earned this award as he has earned the respect and affection of the members of our organization for his commitment to peace, equality and fairness for all," he added.
   "I am honored and humbled to be given this award," Mayor Cantu said in a written statement. "It has been my pleasure to work with (this organization) over the years for the betterment of our community."
